The September 2024 SNAP Benefit Schedule by State

As September 2024 approaches, millions of Americans who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are preparing to receive their monthly benefits.

SNAP, commonly referred to as food stamps, plays a vital role in supplementing the grocery budgets of low-income families and individuals, ensuring they have access to nutritious food. These benefits are provided through an EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) card, which can be used like a debit card at approved stores.

The timing of when SNAP benefits are made available on EBT cards varies across the country. This is because, while SNAP is federally funded, it is administered by state and local agencies which have the latitude to set their own distribution schedules.

This results in a diverse array of payment dates that can depend on factors ranging from the recipient’s case number to their last name, or simply be a fixed date for all residents of a state.

Here’s a look at when SNAP benefits will be distributed in September 2024 for all 50 states, as well as Washington, D.C., and U.S. territories:

  • Alabama: September 4 to 23

Recipients of SNAP benefits will also notice a change in their benefit amounts due to the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) put into effect by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

This adjustment not only reflects the aim to better assist households in meeting their food needs but also promotes healthier eating choices amongst beneficiaries by providing increased benefits for the purchase of fruits and vegetables at participating locations.

This overview should help SNAP recipients across the United States to better anticipate the arrival of their September 2024 benefits.

By knowing when their benefits will be available, individuals and families can more effectively plan their grocery shopping to ensure they continue to have access to sufficient and nutritious food.
